Fighting burnout in nursing

Nursing is a highly respected medical profession. Although there are many rewards of a career nursing, there are many stressors that can affect a nurse. The nursing profession is an area experiencing high levels of burnout. Much of wear is due to physical and emotional exhaustion.

High levels of stress and burnout can have a negative impact on nurses. The causes of stress affecting nurses to include dealing with death and dying, workload, overtime, high job demands, lack of staff, conflict with nurses, dealing with members family and patients difficult, and conflicts with physicians.

The symptoms of burnout approaches include anxiety, insomnia, memory loss, inability concentrating, feelings of being overwhelmed, frustration, sadness and physical symptoms like headaches. The symptoms of burnout were calling in sick to work, not meeting deadlines, poor attitude, the depletion, isolation and depression.

The following are a number of technical nurses now being used in an effort to prevent burnout:

1. During periods of time off work, make sure you participate in activities with family and friends. You can find one hobby, recreational activities, dining out, movies … etc. The key is to take your mind off the job. In addition, humor plays a role in alleviating stress. Take the time to go see a comedy movie. You could also volunteer for a cause that you love. You will meet new people with a different background to speak and you will be helping others.

5. Take care of your body and mind. It is important that you maintain good health. Exercise is a stress reducer. Try going to a gym, aerobics, sports, jogging, join a group of yoga, walk and meditate. Make sure you eat healthy and nutritious food. Also, make sure you have plenty of sleep. A healthy body and the mind will translate into a healthy perspective in life.

6. Learn to say "no" in a courteous manner. You do not have to say no to everything that is asked you, but selective say you can not help feel less swamped with work.

The field of nursing can be very demanding. A high attrition rate can not only affect the individual nurse, but also the health field. It is important that nurses face stressors and reduce them in a productive way and positive.
